I think its about time we had a current events thread so ima start it:
I think Bush is being retarded about this Dubai thing. Republicans have been running on National Security for the past few recent years, and now his decision is going to be the death of the republican party in extremely contemporary politics.

I think you're wrong and mis informed.
BTW, the republican party can not and never will die. The day it does you can count many of your friends and teachers among the fallen, along with America.

The insight you two bring to such a weighty discussion would certainly merit a prime time talk show on CNN, FOX News or MSNBC. Have your people call their people.

oK, lemme spell it out for you. Bush has been up on National Security since 9/11. He has invaded iraq based on that right, protecting America from nations that can and have the will to hurt it. Republicans all over have followed suit, republican congressmen campaign on National Security, that they will do their best to protect the American people. Now, for bush to say, let's outsource the running of our ports from a trustable dutch(?) company to a Dubai company, one which is from the middle east, supposedly the hottest anti-american bed in the world, poses a huge risk to national security. If they gain management rights to our ports, whats to stop them from literally importing terrorists and supplies to terrorists throught the ports? Our wonderfully enforced security measures? Tell me robbie, how am i misinformed? I wish to be enlightened.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
Then get arrested for sedition. Booya

another thing, i understand that the republican party will not die (any time soon) but i was refering to their control of the presidency. Bush's approval rating of 30% doesn't look good for republicans. Say bye bye to the republicans in the presidency.
If Hilary Clinton wins at the Democratic Primary, i apologize for this post and take back all i have said in it.

Booya We've already talked about this in RL, you know I agree with that view. I was just opposing you because of your comment on the deaht of republicans. And just to oppose you. Also, the day Hilary Clinto wins democratic primary I'm forming a badn of vigilantes to impose vigilante justice. Mr. Robinson will join us along with our people from CNN, FOX News or MSNBC. But then we remember that CNN is the communist New Network so we impose our justice on that. BAM!

Yay commies!!! Just lettin' you know I'm here....also Buddy, i'm with you about the loss of republican control possibility...but the thing is, the democrats don't have some kick-arse opponent who could really wrest control from them.
and, about hilary...i might have to join robbie....i mean, i don't think the country's ready for hilary, and i know i'm not...

of course the country isn't ready for hilary, but Obama has proved interesting, and this guy from lower Virginia, which would be a money state if the Demos could claim it.
I do support vigilanteism, but i no longer endorse Communism (srry signora, but i've been convinced by the Stock market and other economic policy that communism isn't right for America or the world. Socialism however...)

I think Former Senator Edwards might be able to have a strong case for president, and besides my future-to-be uncle is doing the stonework on his new house in Chapel Hill. He is very charismatic, honest, democratic, and southern. I must also commend Edwards on "growing" a spine. (oh well, my sad excuse at humor)
Yes I agree w/ Caitlin. The country does need a women president, but isn't ready for someone like Hilary to take office. Although it's possible Hilary could win Demoractic Primary, I think she is too polarizing.
I used to think Senator McCain would be a good moderate (republican) option. but lately I have to congratulate McCain on "losing his spine". If he wasn't bending over backwards for Bush and bottom-kissing our current administration, he could've been a good candidate. He really built up some steam during the filibuster time. (He still had a brain then)
Personal two best options=Obama and Edwards

I still think the Democrats have made huge headway . think about it. One of the most liberal candidates in the country(kerry) almost beat(prob. did actually beat) Bush. The "crazy massachusttes liberal" did something that seemed impossible. That is why I think Hilary does have a chance.

Darn, I wish I knew more about the news. My sister was once like me, very illinformed, but then she went to college and put herself in the throes of a government and politics class which forced her to read the newspaper everyday. Im so lazy I even get the NY times e-mailed to me everyday (which i promptly delete after reading the hedlines) However, while on vacation, in the resort lobby everyday they had the NY Times Digest wchich was like a little 5-6 page packet with like the major headline articles and following up on previous stories. All of the articles were really short summaries so they were sweet, I really liked that but ive never really invested my time in current events anyway... I just thought i'd read along this thread for fun. I hope you all enjoyed this COMPLETELY random post about nothing pertaining to my views on whats going on! :-)

Obama is a beast. I couldn't be bothered to read all of that (though I generally know what you're all saying as I've talked to you all about this before.) New topic: has anyone ever heard of Paul Rieckhoff? He's an Iraqi Freedom vet who wrote "Chasing Ghosts", a new memoir/commentary of his time in Iraq. I've been listening to his interviews (Both NPR and The Colbert Report [which I usually despise] had him on yesterday.) From the bits and pieces I was able to pick up, I'm pretty sure he was the leader of an infantry platoon and did some missions with the 1st armored division. Once, he got to do the democratic response to Bush's weekly radio address. I really want to read his book. What, if anything, do you guys think about him and his book? I want to get more info on him before I start going "I LOVE HIM HE'S THE BEST", because, I mean, what if he eats babies or something? But listening to him talk was interesting. He has a very unique view on what's going on and what's happened.

He didn't almost beat him, and he definately didn't beat him. He was the second worst candidate the democratic party had, anyone but Al Sharpton could've done better.
